UK Public Opinion 2026: Growing Demand for More Bank Holiday Weekends Across the Country

People want the Government to add more bank holiday weekends to the calendar.

The country has ten bank holidays a year, which is a lot less than the European average of 13 long weekends.

According to the Irish Independent, an extra bank holiday would cost the country about €355 million.

The publication also said that a spokesperson for People Before Profit is hoping for three more bank holidays.

The long weekends could be the first Monday in July, the last Monday in September, and the last Monday in November.

A poll done by the paper found that 80% of people would like another long weekend. About a quarter of those people wanted it to be on Good Friday.

There have been a lot of Bank Holidays in the last few weeks. The St. Patrick’s Day weekend was only two weeks before Easter, and the May Bank Holiday is in four weeks..

There will be a break for a few weeks before the Halloween Bank Holiday on October 26.

Right now, July, September, and November are the only months that don’t have a long weekend for a bank holiday.
