In 2027, the UK will officially have a three-day work week because of “substitute” bank holidays. These are days off that are given to people across the UK when bank holidays fall on a weekend.

The next Bank Holiday in the UK after Easter is Monday, May 4. The Spring Bank Holiday comes soon after, on Monday, May 25.

The UK is also thinking about a three-day workweek around Christmas next year, with five days off in a row! Also, January 1, 2028, is a Saturday, so we will have a “substitute” day on Monday, January 3.
